Party dressing 101: the trends and rules to follow for the season ahead

Being in the southern hemisphere means adopting a party wardrobe of pretty cocktail dresses, strappy heels, florals, lace and all the good things that go along with summer. In other words, you don’t need an excuse to invest.

However, while the invitations pile up, it can become overwhelming knowing what to wear, what’s appropriate – and how to fill your wardrobe with investment-worthy party staples.

The BBQ

Whether it’s with friends, family or both, it's inevitable that an afternoon picnic, pool party or sunset soiree will be on the cards this season. Look to the trends of the moment for inspiration and go for floaty midi dresses, bold prints, and unique or asymmetric necklines to get through the season. Nude accessories work well for daytime and are a trend-led alternative to always-safe black – so be brave and explore your options in that department.

The dinner party

Once the sun has set, it’s time to really embrace the evening and look to the high-shine trend of the moment. If you would prefer a sparkling top half, pare back the look with white to keep things light and summery – black can read too heavy for the weather. If OTT glamour is a little too much for you, or not quite right for your dress code, opt for a floor-sweeping gown in a neutral tone and let your accessories do the talking: shoes and an evening bag with a hint of sparkle say, I’ve arrived.

Take a look here at our Charmed Evening Gown, neutral in tone with a sparkle for that touch of glam or if you'd prefer a sparkly top why not look at our Millie Beaded Top with beautiful sequin detailing.
